Hodi, and the answer
In Shona, when you arrive at somebody's door, you call out hodi. The answer from inside is pinda: come in. That is the whole idea of this place. Anybody who knocks is let in, and nobody is asked to pay at the door.
Why it is free
Most developers do not learn a language cover to cover. They learn what gets today's job done, then come back for more. Pinda serves both kinds of learner: 4,000 short, working snippets for real tasks, and a structured eight-module course for anyone who wants to go all the way to a job-ready portfolio.
Keeping that knowledge behind a paywall helps nobody. Pinda gives it away, and asks only that people who solve something new give a snippet back.
It started in 1996.
Oscar Manduku-Habeenzu wrote his first programs in his two senior years of high school, in 1996, and never stopped.
Since then he has held every position there is in coding and IT, and works today as a full-stack developer as well as the founder of Cabanga Africa Group and the Kufunga Foundation.
Three decades in, his view is simple: once you learn the basics properly, that foundation makes everything after it easy. New languages, new frameworks and now AI all sit on the same few ideas. That conviction is why he channelled the Foundation's resources into Pinda, so that anyone in Southern Africa with a laptop and a connection can lay that foundation for free.

Who stands behind it
Pinda is a programme of the Kufunga Foundation, the thought-driven development organisation founded in 2015. It is built and run by Cabanga Platforms, the platform arm of Cabanga Africa Group, as part of its social responsibility work.
